Downtown Reading to Host its First-Ever Taco Fest Saturday

Downtown Reading is gearing up for a fiesta-filled weekend with its inaugural Taco Fest, scheduled for Saturday, May 4, on the 500 and 600 blocks of Penn Street from 12-6 p.m. Promising a celebration of food, fun, fitness, and fiesta, this event will honor Mexican culture and traditions just in time for Cinco de Mayo. Free parking is available at the following garages thanks to the Reading Parking Authority from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.:

• Reed and Court St. Garage (666 Court Street; entrance is across from the courthouse)
• 4th and Cherry St. Garage (420 Cherry Street)

Mayor Morán will be on hand to welcome attendees and kick off the festivities, featuring an array of taco varieties from local restaurants and regional food vendors. From traditional carne asada to innovative options like oxtail and vegan alternatives, there will be something to satisfy every palate. Among the participating vendors are beloved Reading establishments such as Great American Creamery, Saucony Creek Franklin Station, and Taquería Jimenez, as well as regional favorites like Fiesta Churros, Kona Ice, and Uno Taquería.

Guests can also enjoy live music performances by talented local bands, including Grupo Operativo JT, Banda Toxica, and Rey Azteca Mariachi, while also enjoying folkloric dance performances by youth group Grupo Uarhani and interactive activities throughout the day like ax-throwing and giant slides. DJ Fame will keep the energy going on the 500 block of Penn Street and during the Nemesis Fitness Cinco de Mayo 5k, which will take off from and return to the heart of the festival.

Festival-goers can enjoy delicious craft beverages, including craft beers from Saucony Creek Franklin Station Pub and Pagoda City Brewing, as well as margaritas, palomas, and pina coladas, and many non-alcoholic options. Activities planned for the event include axe-throwing, a mechanical bull, face painting, and giant slides. You can be sure that there will be fun for all ages.

Taco Fest will also be an opportunity to showcase the vibrant Downtown Reading community and other City businesses and entrepreneurs. Attendees can browse offerings from a variety of local businesses and organizations, including La Lonchera, El Patron, Reading Public Library, Salsa Burrito, Reading Rebels, Que Rico Dance Studio, and many more.

In collaboration with Taco Fest, Nemesis Fitness will host its annual Cinco de Mayo Run, a non-competitive 5k through Downtown Reading with a fiesta theme. Participants will join the fun pre- and post- the race sporting their new custom Nemesis Fitness swag.
