Driver hurt when pickup truck spins out, rolls on rain-soaked Route 422 in eastern Berks

A Philadelphia woman was injured when she lost control of a pickup truck on Route 422 in Amity Township during Tuesday evening’s heavy rain storm.

Quiana Byrd, 42, was taken by ambulance to Reading Hospital where she was treated for minor injuries, Amity police said Wednesday.

The one-vehicle crash happened about 7:15 p.m. in the 400 block of East Benjamin Franklin Highway, which is Route 422, just west of Monocacy Road.

Police said Byrd’s full-sized pickup truck spun out on the wet road and flipped onto the driver’s side. Rescue crews from Amity Fire & Rescue and Monarch Fire Company removed Byrd from the vehicle.

The eastbound lanes were closed for about 45 minutes until a towing contractor removed the truck.
