E-bike rider, 79, injured in collision with SUV in Berks

A 79-year-old Exeter Township man was injured Sunday afternoon when he was struck by an SUV while riding a bicycle about a mile from his home, police said.

The accident happened about 1:50 p.m. on Boyertown Pike, which is Route 562, at Ritters Road.

Police said Robert Czarneck was riding an e-bike, a bicycle that can run on electric power as well as by pedaling. He was northbound on Ritters Road and it appears he did not stop for the stop sign, entering the path of the SUV driven by Nicole Reidel, 32, of Exeter Township, police said.

The SUV went off the road and down a ravine after hitting the bike. Information on whether Reidel was injured was unavailable Monday.

Czarnecki was taken by ambulance to Reading Hospital for unspecified injuries. Information on his medical condition was unavailable.
