Jaire Alexander, a two-time Pro Bowl cornerback whom the Eagles acquired from the Ravens ahead of last week’s trade deadline, will take time away from football to focus on his physical and mental health, according to multiple reports Tuesday night.
The Eagles traded a 2026 sixth-round pick to Baltimore on Nov. 1 for Alexander and a 2027 seventh-rounder, hoping he could help plug the leak at the second outside corner spot, opposite Quinyon Mitchell. But Alexander, 28, didn’t make the trip to Green Bay ahead of Monday night’s 10-7 win, the team announced Sunday, citing his knee and a coach’s decision.
Following offseason knee surgery, Alexander played in just two games with the Ravens this season and was listed as a healthy inactive for five.
“Sometimes in this league, you acquire information, you watch everything and you feel like, ‘Hey, the risk is worth the reward here,’” Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said following the deal. “I think when you talk about (him) still (being) a young guy, knowing where his health is at now, feeling healthy, feeling good, we felt like the risk was worth the reward with him.
“I remember when he signed in June with Baltimore thinking what a great signing by them. It didn’t work out the way that he wanted or that they wanted or he wouldn’t have been available to us. But the relationship we have with Baltimore, being able to have honest conversations and understanding what he went through a little bit in training camp and getting back to health, (he) obviously missed a lot of time last year. Then just really doing a deep dive on him and how successful he’s been, what we thought of him last year when we were in Brazil playing (the Packers), and then for the first part of the year.”
Before signing with the Ravens, Alexander spent seven seasons in Green Bay, where he posted 292 combined tackles, 12 interceptions and 70 passes defended. The Packers drafted him in the first round in 2018, and he was second-team All-Pro and a Pro Bowl selection in 2020 and 2022.
