Eagles Notebook: Cam Jurgens to miss time with foot injury

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said Monday that right guard Cam Jurgens is week to week with a foot injury sustained in the Eagles 34-31 win over the Commanders.

Jurgens played just 28 snaps and exited the locker room in a walking boot.

Veteran Sua Opeta played 43 snaps, 61 percent of the Eagles’ total snaps on offense.

“He did great,” center Jason Kelce said. “We all feel very confident with Sua in the building. Cam’s been playing tremendous for us early on, but Sua came in and got the job done. Sua plays great against everybody but in particular, the Commanders.”

Sirianni said Opeta clearly is the next man up, then shared a conversation he had with right tackle Lane Johnson.

“Lane came up to me in the locker room after the game … and was singing the praises of Sua,” Sirianni said. “So we recognize it as coaches when we got to watch it. I know his teammates recognized it in-game. Sua was outstanding, and that’s not easy to do against a very good front. That’s a very good front we played yesterday. Great job by him.”

The Eagles (4-0) have their work cut out when they hit the road this weekend to take on the Rams.

Though all-world defensive tackle Aaron Donald has zero sacks in three games against the Eagles, he disrupts fronts and changes offensive schemes.

“Always have to be alert for the best player on the field,” Sirianni said. “Sometimes that’s a D-tackle. Sometimes that’s a D-end. Sometimes that’s a linebacker. Sometimes it’s a corner or safety.

“Aaron Donald is multiple. Obviously, I’m early in my studies here, but, shoot, you don’t have to have the tape on very long to know where 99 is and how disruptive he is. Really didn’t even need to put the tape on. I’ve seen enough plays of how many plays this guy has made.”

The Rams (2-2) defeated the Colts, 29-23, in overtime on Sunday.

Rookie Puka Nacua, who entered the weekend as the most targeted receiver in the league, registered nine receptions for 163 yards, including the game-winning 22-yard touchdown vs. the Colts.

With 39 catches in four games, Nacua has the most receptions ever by a player in his first four career games. Nacua had 119 receiving yards in the season opener and 147 the following week. He and Harlon Hill, of the 1954 Chicago Bears, are the only NFL players with at least 100 receiving yards in three of their first four games.

NOTES >> With his 143rd consecutive regular season start Sunday, Kelce can tie the ultimate ironman, offensive tackle Jon Runyan, for the franchise record. Runyan started 144 straight games from 2000-08. Only three players have played in more games as an Eagle: David Akers (188), Brian Dawkins (183) and Brandon Graham (182). … The Rams are 17-5 when allowing less than 3.0 sacks a game and 14-1 when scoring 27 or more points in a game since the start of 2021. … D’Andre Swift had 14 rushes for 56 yards after going over 100 rushing yards in his previous two games. Swift is second in the NFL with 364 rushing yards.
