Eagles Notebook: Jalen Hurts ditches knee brace as Eagles get healthy

PHILADELPHIA — The biggest takeaway from Eagles practice Thursday was the sight of Jalen Hurts playing without a brace on his left knee.

Hurts had been stumbling around at times with soreness in the knee that limited his ability to move.

“I think it is a sign of progress,” Hurts said after practice. “Like I said, the bye week came at a great time. We all took advantage of that or tried to take advantage of that time and everything is trending forward.”

Eagles tight end Grant Calcaterra (concussion), guard Cam Jurgens (foot) and cornerback Bradley Roby (shoulder) all were able to practice fully. It looks like Jurgens will be back at right guard, where he started the first four games before injuring his foot, for Monday night’s game against Kansas City.

Kansas City is a 3 1/2-hour drive from Jurgens’ hometown of Beatrice, Neb., and he anticipates a lot of family and friends making the trip, though many are Chiefs fans.

Roby would be a major upgrade at nickel back if he can play his usual role of almost half the defensive snaps. He’s also missed a month’s worth of games.

With tight end Dallas Goedert likely sidelined for at least a month with a broken arm, Calcaterra has another shot to prove he belongs. Goedert had 23 first down receptions this season, sixth among tight ends.

“There’s no way to replace a guy like Dallas Goedert,” Calcaterra said. “But I feel like with my skills set I can step in any way that I’m needed to and help fill that void.”

Safety Justin Evans (knee) was limited at practice.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is 4-0 against the Eagles, who he led to a 130-93-1 record in 14 seasons.

Reid’s has a record of 28-4 in games after the bye, most of that accrued in his tour with the Birds.

About time for some payback, eh?

“You’ve got to make sure we put that preparation in for the week,” said Eagles veteran Brandon Graham, whom Reid drafted in 2010. “Just like any other week it’s a faceless opponent. You’ve got to make sure that it’s about us and what we do. We’ve got to make sure we go out to execute and try to win one more game.”
