An early-morning fire Saturday severely damaged four homes in Cumru Township.
The three-alarm blaze broke out around 4:30 a.m. at 717 Philadelphia Ave. Initial reports were that at least one person was trapped in the home.
The flames spread to three neighboring homes.
Cumru Township Fire Department Chief Jim Beane said Saturday morning that he couldn’t provide many details about the fire because it is under investigation by state police. Troopers have not yet released any information on the investigation.
The Berks County Coroner’s Office confirmed they were called to the scene but could not provide any further details.
Beane declined to provide information on whether anyone was injured or killed during the fire. A cause and damage estimate were not immediately available.
Beane said the Berks County chapter of the American Red Cross was assisting families impacted by the blaze. He could not say how many families were affected but did say all four homes are uninhabitable.
Philadelphia Avenue was closed Saturday morning due to the fire investigation.
