Eastern Lancaster churches collaborate on youth centered outreach service projects

A collaboration of five community churches in Eastern Lancaster County collectively planned and conducted youth centered outreach service work to help widows, single moms and those who fell on hard times during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Our work during July 12 through 15 was a great success, God was glorified and many people were helped,” said Gene Pierce of CONNECT 2021.

Called CONNECT 2021, its mission is Connecting People, Churches and Community all in the Name of Christ. The community outreach service project was conducted in July 2021 by members of five area churches — Bethany Grace Fellowship, St. John’s Center UCC, Bowmansville Mennonite, Terre Hill Bible Fellowship and Vibrant Church of Terre Hill — in the Eastern Lancaster County communities of East Earl, Terre Hill, Reinholds and Bowmansville.

Using six teams of 13 youth and 17 adults, they planned and completed 11 work projects during the four days. The work included pressure washing, painting, decking repairs, roofing and siding, cleanup, debris removal, landscaping and general maintenance, as well as shared fellowship and created lasting memories and friendships.

CONNECT 2021 was supported by more than 20 other participants from the churches in areas of operations planning, logistics, transportation, administration, hospitality, and discipleship/fellowship.

Many local merchants joined in supporting CONNECT 2021 with discounts, gift cards and donations of construction and maintenance materials and food.

This fall CONNECT 2021 is transitioning to a more permanent name of ELANCO CONNECT while retaining the same logo of “His Hands and Feet.” Additionally, they will be pursuing their own non-profit status with the IRS with a permanent banking account.

For the following years they desire to expand service in the Eastern Lancaster County area with additional partner churches, youth organizations and merchant sponsors. Their hope is to continue the effort of ELANCO CONNECT throughout the year with smaller scope one-day events with seasonal service projects.
