Elementary Center intern named Twin Valley’s February Intern of the Month

Twin Valley High School senior Kelly Holloran has been named Twin Valley’s February Intern of the Month.

Since August Kelly has been interning at the Twin Valley Elementary Center with guidance counselor and mentor Beth Sharp. Kelly helps students daily, listens to their problems, gives them someone to talk to, and gives lessons on need-to-know subjects.

Her time at TVEC includes meeting students one-on-one, solving bullying problems, creating a class lesson presented to the entire second grade about bullying, attending a trip with her mentor and two students to a grief organization, helping with small groups for a specific purpose such as anxiety, friendship skills and anger management. She also held a children’s grief awareness week, during which she raised $1,291.99 for “A Haven.”

Since her past job at the YMCA, Kelly knew she had a love for working with kids. She was originally interested in becoming an early education teacher, but she has since narrowed her focus to helping young students with their troubles and creating a safer educational environment for them.

For years, Kelly has been interested in this field, and her happiness in it stems from her ability to brighten a child’s every day, “even if that just means sitting in silence for them and coloring.”

She has learned so much about children and how to help them with their needs so they can become more mindful and comfortable.

In addition to this internship, Kelly works at Ulta Beauty and is the TVHS Ski Club president.

Kelly has already been accepted into West Chester University but her true calling may be something other than as a guidance counselor. Even though she has long had the idea of becoming a guidance counselor, she feels her true calling is in the nutrition field.

Although Kelly said she loves the thought of helping young children specifically, she is even more interested in food and nutrition since it is an aspect of our daily lives.  She will begin to job shadow and learn the field of nutrition with a professional in the field.
