Ellixson’s Elite Team from Boyertown wins top awards at World Cup Martial Arts Championships

Ellixson’s Elite National Competition Team, martial artists of Ellixson’s Tae Kwon Do Academy in Boyertown, won top awards at John Chung’s World Cup Martial Arts Championships held recently in Herndon, Va.

Competing against martial artists from all over the country, Ellixson’s Elite Team of 17 members, both youth and adults, won numerous awards, including 5 Grand Championship winners, which are presented to the winners of the tournament overall.

“I can’t tell you how proud I am of the work this team put in to get the World Cup this year,” said Donnie Ellixson Jr., owner of Ellixson’s Tae Kwon Do.

“This is a great start to our competition year.”

Ellixson recognized the Team’s top winners in a release.

Ellixson’s Elite Head Coach Axel Gonzalez-Kim “wowed the crowd” as he took Adult Black Belt Grands in Forms.

“As he led the Team, his precision and execution was unmatched.”

“Dylan Swenk had an amazing day of Adult Black Belt competition where he completed 15 performances, seven of them tough fighting matches, but it was his performance in Weapons that allowed him to capture the Grands.”

Tristan Ellixson “impressed the crowd” with his Creative Bo Staff Form, claiming the Black Belt Youth Grands in Weapons.

James Thivierge had a “perfect day of competition,” winning 1st in every division he entered and then taking Grands in Underblackbelt Youth Weapons.

“Tabetha Miller, with heart, drive and skill, took Adult Underblackbelt Weapons Grands.”

The Team competed in Forms Divisions and Weapons Divisions which are pre-arranged routines of martial arts skill.  These ‘floor routines’ are judged on speed, power, skill, balance, confidence and showmanship.

Some students also competed in Creative/Extreme Forms and Creative/Extreme Weapons Divisions where students are combining martial arts with jump kicks, spin kicks and gymnastics.

Students also competed in Point Fighting and Continuous Fighting.  Point Fighting (Sparring) is a game of tag where competitors are trying to ‘score’ on their opponent by executing a vital kick or punch in a controlled fashion.  When a point is scored, the match breaks and then re-starts.  Continuous Sparring is the same guidelines, but they do not have to stop when points are scored, testing stamina.

Another area the team competed was Breaking Divisions, where students complete five ‘breaking stations’.  Each station is a display of martial arts punches, strikes and kicks and can be quite entertaining.  The competitors are judged on focus, skill, creativity and level of difficulty.
