Wildflower Wander: Tuesday, Oct. 12, Landingville Marsh, Robin Tracey from Tuscarora State Park will lead a hike. The trail is 4 miles and easy. Participants will hike around the marsh looking for wildlife and wildflowers and make a stop at the Auburn Dam. Participants will meet at the Advance Auto Parts store in the Cressona Mall parking lot to carpool to the site at 10:30 a.m. Hike starts at 11 a.m. Dogs are welcome but must be leashed and get along with people and other pets. Autumn Stroll: Sat, Oct 16, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m., along the historic Union Canal, 103 Spruce St., Pine Grove. It is about a quarter-mile long. Each space is 12 feet wide. Following this event the Pine Grove Holiday Classic Parade will take place at 7 p.m. sponsored by the Pine Grove Lions Club.

Vocals for Veterans: Schuylkill County Fairgrounds, 2270 Fair Road, Summit Station, Saturday, Oct. 16, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tickets $45 to $75. Live bands, food trucks and a variety of vendors. All proceeds provide veterans with non-treatment needs.

Fall foliage hike: Wednesday, Oct. 20, Swatara State Park. Robin Tracey will lead the 5-mile moderate hike that runs parallel to Swatara Creek, down to the old steel bridge and across to make a loop around the back part of the park. Participants will meet in the parking lot on Sand Siding Road just off Route 443 in Suedberg at 10:30 a.m. If the Sand Siding lot is closed, the hike will leave from the Trout Run parking lot. Bring a lunch and water. Dogs welcome but must be leashed and get along with people and other pets. Shine only. Registration is required. Information and registration: Robin at 570-467-2506.

Fire Tower/Reservoir hike: Tuesday, Sept. 26, 10:30 a.m. Explore the mountain behind Locust Lake State Park and Silver Creek Fire Tower and Reservoir. Hike is 7.5 miles and difficult. Meet in visitor parking lot at 10:15 a.m. Bring a lunch. Dogs welcome but must be leashed and get along with people and other pets. Shine only. Lecture

Life on Silk: The South Schuylkill Garden Club will host a program on spiders and other predatory insects in the garden, presented by Penn State Master Gardener Larry Moyer, on Tuesday, Oct. 19 at 6:30 p.m. at First United Church of Christ, 110 Route 61 Schuylkill Haven, the White Church at Penn State Schuylkill. The lecture looks at many species of spiders and why they are so important to the ecosystem.

Arts & crafts

Fired up Ceramics: For seniors and veterans 62 and up, at the Walk In Art Center every Friday, 1 to 3 p.m. Make pottery or sculptures. All supplies will be provided. A $6 donation is requested to help defer the cost. Information: 570-732-3728.

Clay Haven: Walk in Art Center, Monday and Thursday, 6 to 8:30 p.m. $40 per month or $7 per evening, with a minimum of two evenings. Clay must be purchased through the art center. Information: 570-732-3728.

Knitting Circle: Lorraine Felker will teach knitting every Tuesday at the Walk In Art Center, 6 to 8 p.m. at no cost, but donations are appreciated. This class is for all ages. Bring needles, yarn and fellow knitters. All skill levels invited. Information: 570-732-3728.

Health

Pound: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6 p.m., Walk In Art Center. Rock out and lose weight. For ages 13 and older only. Clothing giveaway

Winter clothing giveaway: St. John’s UCC, corner of Dock and Main streets, Schuylkill Haven, is offering a winter clothing giveaway on Oct. 23 (rain date, Oct. 30) from 9 a.m. until noon. Clean, gently used clothing is needed for the giveaway. Drop off winter clothing at the church any Tuesday or Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. or Oct. 7 and 14 from 5 until 7 p.m.

Fundraiser

Basket auction: Oct. 15, 4-8 p.m.; Oct. 16, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.;  Oct. 17, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., Orwigsburg Veterans Memorial Building, 300 Grove St.. Small, medium and large prizes. Winning tickets will be drawn Sunday afternoon at 2:15. You do not need to be present to win. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. All proceeds benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Sponsored by Schaeffer’s Harley-Davidson and Schaeffer’s Motor Sports.

Senior groups

Schuylkill Haven: Senior citizens meet the second and fourth Monday of each month at the Schuylkill Haven Senior/Neighborhood Center, 340 Haven St. The next meeting is Monday, Oct. 11, 6 p.m. The program following the business meeting will feature Jeff Krick, singing “Elvis” hits. Trips for October and November should be paid in full for your seat to be held. The bus trip to Dutch Apple leaves the Senior Center at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 20. There will be a board meeting at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 13, at the Country Squire Restaurant. Information: 570-385-5323.

Wayne Township: The group meets Wednesdays, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 23 Meadowbrook Center, Reedsville, Lunch is served at noon for a $5 donation, followed by a special activity or program. Information: 570-739-2241.

Bus trip

Reservations for bus trip: Christmas Show at American Music Theatre, Lancaster, Nov. 10, sponsored by Frackville Area Senior Citizens. Cost $85. Lunch at Bird-In-Hand Restaurant. Bus leaves at 8 a.m. and returns at 7 p.m. Information: 570-956-9579.
