Fall leaf collection in Reading to start

Reading crews will begin loose and bagged leaf collection on Oct. 16

Crews will make periodic trips through all city neighborhoods after the start date.

There is no formal schedule or pattern for the collection of loose leaves.

Leaves must be raked into the gutter before the collection equipment moves through a block.

Only leaves can be picked up. Grass clippings, brush, branches or other debris should not be mixed with the leaves as such items can damage the collection equipment and delay pickup.

Collection may be delayed or postponed due to weather conditions, equipment, staffing or other conditions.

Bagged leaves will be collected in each neighborhood on that area’s normally scheduled yard-waste collection day.

The schedule is as follows: Northeast areas on Mondays; Center City, East Reading, 18th Ward and South of Penn areas on Tuesdays; Northwest, Northmont, Riverdale and Glenside areas on Wednesdays.

Bagged leaves must be in biodegradable paper bags. No plastic bags will be accepted.

The last day for loose and bagged leaf collection is set for December 1, but subject to change if the leaves fall later than expected. .
