Fleetwood Bank Proud New Blue-Ribbon Sponsor of Oley Valley Community Fair

By Angela Cremer, Fleetwood Bank

Fleetwood Bank is excited to announce its three-year commitment as a blue-ribbon sponsor of the Oley Valley Community Fair. The bank joins XPRESS WAY BULK and the Reading Eagle in this top-level sponsorship. The bank has been a long-time partner of the Oley Fair, serving as a gold sponsor since 2006, and sponsoring the Farmer for a Day tent since its inception over 10 years ago.

This announcement comes shortly after Fleetwood Bank enjoyed welcoming nearly 140 local farmers and agricultural professionals to the Oley Fair Centre for its Agricultural Appreciation Dinner. “The Oley Valley community has welcomed Fleetwood Bank with open arms since we first opened the doors to our branch in King’s Plaza in March of 2021,” said President and CEO Timothy Snyder. “Nationally, community banks are responsible for 80% of all agricultural lending. As the only bank headquartered in Berks County, this commitment to such a well-known event that nearly 60,000 people from Berks County and beyond attend just makes sense to show our loyalty to the agricultural industry and our community as a whole.”

“This partnership, which will continue to strengthen the Oley Valley Community Fair as well as show the commitment of Fleetwood Bank to the communities that we serve, is a prime example of working together to make our communities stronger,” stated Kevin D. Bieber, Oley Valley Community Fair President since 2003 and Fleetwood Bank Vice President-Commercial Lender.

Fleetwood Bank also looks forward to hosting its annual Community Bingo Fundraiser at the Oley Valley Fair Centre on Sunday, Oct. 26. Every year, Fleetwood Bank employees volunteer their time to put together a bingo that benefits local nonprofits. Last year, $11,000 was raised, and 100% of the proceeds were donated to Habitat for Humanity of Berks County, New Journey Community Outreach, Inc., Safety Net Sanctuary, and Veterans Making A Difference. About Oley Valley Community Fair

In the years following World War II, there was a need to unite members of the community through a community project. Two Oley residents, Warren Levengood and Fred Stauffer, visited a number of surrounding community fairs to get ideas for a possible fair in the Oley Valley. The two gentlemen, with the help of a few others, gathered many ideas from the fairs they visited and determined that the Oley Valley would be an ideal place for a community fair. Warren and Fred approached the Oley Lions Club and the Board of Directors at the Oley High School to receive acceptance for the idea. The first Oley Valley Community Fair was held on Oct. 2-4, 1947. Today, the Fair is made possible by hundreds of volunteers who put in countless hours before, during, and after fair time. The fair promotes good, friendly competition among the many friends and neighbors of the surrounding Oley area. Records show that in the first year of the fair, $267.25 was awarded in premiums. Today, a wide variety of local products from the farm and home are entered into different categories. In 2022, the fair had 6,335 entries with a total premium distribution of $25,238. The Oley Fair is also known for its famous French fries, hamburgers, milkshakes, and more delicious homestyle food – all prepared and served by generous volunteers from 21 local churches and their congregations. The Fair prides itself on the fact that visitors will not find any food vendors or midways at the fair. This year, the 78th annual Oley Valley Community Fair is taking place from Thursday, Sept. 18, to Saturday, Sept. 20. The theme is “Fall is in the air. … See you at the Oley Fair.” For more information, visit oleyfair.org.
