Four Wilson High School 11th-graders earn rank of Eagle Scout

An Eagle Scout Court of Honor was held on March 11 for four Wilson High School 11th-graders who are members of Boy Scout Troop 430, sponsored by St. Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church in Spring Township.

Toby Beougher, John Giglio, Evan Hardick and Trentin Lechleitner officially earned the rank of Eagle Scout at the ceremony where they were honored by state representatives Barry J. Jozwiak (R) and Johanny Cepeda-Freytiz (D).

Lechleitner, son of Christopher and Jennifer Lechleitner, became an Eagle Scout on Dec. 4, 2020. For his Eagle Scout project, he oversaw the removal of invasive plants and trees, planted 37 native trees and mulched to attract different wildlife in the outdoor space around the retention pond at Wilson West Middle School. The area also services as an outdoor classroom.

Giglio, son of John and Donna Giglio, became an Eagle Scout on Jan. 28, 2021. For his Eagle Scout project, he oversaw the clean up and painting of new lines in the parking lots at the Bethany Children’s Home in Heidelberg Township as well as the cleanup and removal of weeds and trash from a retaining wall and flower beds around the facility.

Hardick, son of Jason and Tammy Hardick, earned the rank of Eagle Scout on May 10, 2022. For his Eagle Scout project, he organized the demolition of an old outdoor fireplace and the construction of a new outdoor fire pit and surrounding area with benches and a wood rack as well as cleanup of the nearby pavilion at the Bethany Children’s Home.

Beougher, son of David and Marie Beougher, earned the rank of Eagle Scout on Jan. 4. For his Eagle Scout project, he coordinated the replacement of a degraded wildlife viewing station on the Great Oak Nature Trail at Blue Marsh Lake and removed invasive vegetation to open up the viewing station to allow native species to grow and attract different wildlife.

All four are members of the Order of the Arrow, active in their respective churches, and each held several different leadership positions within the troop.

The Scouts also were presented with Eagle Palms, which are bronze, gold and silver awards presented to those who earn five, 10, 15 or more merit badges beyond the 21 required to become an Eagle Scout.

Hardick received three Palms; Beougher, four; Lechleitner, five; and Giglio, eight.

Gigliio is a member of the Wilson bowling team, which won the Berks County championship. Lechleitner, Beougher and Hardick are members of the state champion Wilson water polo team and the Central Penn League and District 3A champion Wilson swim team. Beougher is also a member of the Wilson band, concert band and orchestra.
