From Widoktadwen Center for Native Knowledge
All are invited to attend the third annual Good Medicine Indigenous Wellness Celebration on Saturday, June 28, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Riverfront Park in Reading. Learn about Native American approaches to health and wellness, create art, and connect with local nonprofit and healthcare resources.
The event will kick off with a cleanup of Riverfront Park from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Supplies and refreshments will be provided to all volunteers. Take advantage of free blood pressure screenings, enter to win raffle prizes, and listen to some contemporary Indigenous music curated by local Indigenous youth.
Learn about environmental health and stewardship and view environmental activist posters created by Berks County youth during summer camp. Author Kaitlin Curtice (Citizen Potawatomi Nation) will be offering story times for children at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and will have signed copies of her books available. At 11:30 a.m., hear from the LGBT Center of Greater Reading about LGBTQ+ terminology. A Native American recipe demonstration will take place at 12 p.m., featuring free food samples, followed by a short talk at 1 p.m. on the origins of Native American beadwork and a beading demonstration by Petrichor Art.
This family-friendly event is free and open to all and will be held rain or shine. Dress for the weather, pack an umbrella, and bring a picnic blanket or some camping chairs to spend the day with us at the park! More information can be found at www.widoktadwen.org.
