Gov. Mifflin sophomore Kaitlyn Highduch placed first Saturday morning in the PTXC 12.2 cross country race at Kutztown University.
Highduch covered the 3.1-mile course in 18:54.4, the only girl to run under 19 minutes. The event was called 12.2 because the 12th annual race was canceled last season due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Highduch defeated runner-up Camryn Kiser of Chambersburg by nearly nine seconds. Kiser finished in 19:03.9.
Highduch was one of three Berks County runners to finish in the top 20. Gov. Mifflin’s Lydia Drago finished 15th in 20:00.1 and Oley Valley’s Ava Lottig was 20th in 20:19.3.
Exeter senior Alex Holbrook was the top Berks finisher in the boys race, placing sixth in 16:06.7
Zach Zerbe of Gov. Mifflin finished 19th in 16:46.1.
At the Abington Invitational, Twin Valley’s Laura Posh finished third in 20:07 behind Mount St. Joseph Academy teammates Ella Woehlcke (19:33) and Maggie Murphy (19:40).
