The Hamburg wrestling team will not compete again until after Christmas due to COVID-19 issues in the program, according to Hamburg athletic director Aaron Menapace.
Due to COVID health and safety protocols, Hamburg is unable to wrestle through Dec. 24, forcing the postponement of two Berks I matches and the cancellation of two non-league matches.
Hamburg is next scheduled to wrestle on Monday, Dec. 27, in the Newport Holiday Tournament.
The Hawks had one match canceled and another postponed this week. The Hamburg at Daniel Boone Berks I match scheduled for Wednesday has been rescheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 29. A non-league dual meet scheduled Tuesday at Northern Lebanon was canceled.
Menapace also announced that a non-league match scheduled Tuesday, Dec. 21, at home against Blue Mountain has been canceled and a Berks I match at home against Reading High scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 22, has been postponed with no new date set.
Hamburg also was scheduled to participate in the King of the Mountain Tournament Friday and Saturday at Lock Haven, but will not compete in that tournament.
Hamburg opened the season Saturday at Ephrata, winning one of four matches in a dual meet tournament.
