Mia Gassert of Hamburg finished second in the Class 2A District 3 Girls Tennis Singles Championships Saturday at Hershey Racquet Club.
Gassert, the No. 3 seed, earned a berth to the PIAA Championships Nov. 5-6 at the Hershey Racquet Club.
Gassert defeated No. 2 seed Madeleine Gerz of Lancaster Mennonite in the semifinals to clinch a berth in the state tournament.
In the championship match, Gassert lost 6-1, 6-1 to No. 1 seed and defending champion Anna Millen of Lancaster Catholic.
Gassert was the only one of six Berks entries to advance out of the first day of the two-day tournament.
In Class 2A, Wyomissing’s Aly Saad lost to Millen in the first round and Kutztown’s Sierra Smart lost to Millen in the quarterfinals. Also, Berks Catholic’s Abby Schnatz won in the first round before losing to Gerz in the quarterfinals.
In Class 3A, Reading High’s Ashley Retana and Exeter’s Anya Whitman lost in the first round.
