Mason Young, in his first start at quarterback, threw three touchdown passes as Wilson defeated Cheltenham 35-24 in a non-league football game on opening night Friday.
Young finished the game 17 for 21 for 190 yards with one interception.
He completed touchdown passes of 20 yards to Correll Akings, 24 yards to Jaiden Carpenter and one yard to Damien Greer.
Young’s TD pass to Akings put the Bulldogs ahead 7-0 in the first quarter. They stretched the lead to 14-0 later in the quarter on Young’s TD pass to Carpenter.
Akings scored on a 3-yard run in the second quarter to make it 21-0.
Cheltenham responded with a 67-yard scoring strike, with Kendall Jackson hitting Carson Giddiens.
Wilson answered with Greer’s 1-yard TD reception, but Cheltenham pulled to within 28-12 at halftime when Jackson hit Chaz Moore with 71-yard scoring strike.
Ethan Harding’s 11-yard run in the fourth quarter gave Wilson a 35-12 lead.
Greer finished with 61 yards rushing on 9 carries and Akings had 45 on 17 carries. Greer also caught 3 passes for 35 yards.
Up next for the Bulldogs is an away game Friday at 7 p.m. at Plymouth Whitemarsh.
