Highduch, Werner win Ben Bloser cross country titles

Gov. Mifflin sophomore Kaitlyn Highduch and Conrad Weiser junior Sydney Werner won individual girls cross county titles Saturday at the Ben Bloser Invitational in Newville.

Highduch won the Class 3A title, helping Gov. Mifflin edge Exeter and Dallastown in a close three-team race. All three finished with 117 points with Gov. Mifflin winning the title and Exeter taking second based on the finish of their sixth runners.

The Exeter boys won the Class 3A team title with Alex Holbrook finishing third on the 3.1-mile course on the campus of Big Spring High School.

Highduch defeated Wilson teammates Caryn Rippey and Katie Dallas to earn her third invitational title of the season. Highduch won the Keystone Cup on the opening weekend and finished first last weekend at the PTXC 12.2 race at Kutztown University.

Rippey finished second followed by Dallas.

Werner won the Class 1A-2A race, defeating Annville-Cleona’s Braetan Peters and defending District 3 Class 2A champion Peyton Ellis of Boiling Springs.
