Higher fees on tap in Orwigsburg

Orwigsburg residents will likely see a slight increase in fees for the new year if the 2024 draft budget is approved in Decmeber

The budgets for 2024 are approved for public review in draft form and are available for download on the borough website at until the next meeting.

Among the proposals likely to be approved are a new parks and recreation fund to be funded with a 0.8 mill property tax. The water rate is to increase by $6 per quarter. The sewer rate is set to be going up by $9 per quarter and the sanitation fee up by $7.75 per quarter.

In other business, the economic development and revitalization committee recently met to discuss ways to publicize business in the greater Orwigsburg area. The Orwigsburg Area Business & Professional Association will reportedly help with the project.

Council approved the internal inspections and clearing of both water storage tanks as well as the water plant’s influent contact tank. Pittsburg Tank and Tower completed the tank inspections in August. Cleaning could not be completed because of interior cathodic protection.

Regarding sewer maintenance, nearly 200 tons of grit were removed from VLR Tank #1.

A motion to approve and ratify the accounts payable for general, fire, water, sewer, sanitation, state, grant, credit union, and capital improvement accounts was passed, along with permission to pay interim bills.

Upcoming community activities and events include a farmers market on Thurs., Nov. 16 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the M&T lot and a zoning hearing board meeting on Mon., Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. in council chambers.
