Mason Wang had 19 points and eight rebounds as Hood ended Alvernia’s 10-game winning streak with an 87-78 victory in a MAC Commonwealth game Saturday at Jack McCloskey Court.
Evan Wang had 14 points and seven rebounds for the Blazers (14-2, 17-6) and three others scored in double figures.
Avery Walker had 22 points, five assists and three blocked shots for the Golden Wolves (11-5, 18-6), whose last loss came Jan. 15 at Hood.
Keon Taylor had 17 points and five assists, Jakob Kelly had 15 points, 14 rebounds and five assists and Malik Green had 15 points eight rebounds and two blocks for the Golden Wolves.
Stevenson 91, Albright 88 (OT): At Owings Mills, Md., K.J. Holton scored 24 points and McKale Williams had 21 as the Mustangs (7-9 MAC Commonwealth, 11-11) handed the Lions (6-10, 10-14) their sixth loss in the last seven games.
Albright’s Robert Mangum made a jumper with five seconds left in regulation to force overtime. Williams sealed the win by making 5-of-6 free throws in the final 10 seconds.
Sidney Brown scored 25 points for the Lions. Mangum had 17 and Jordan Guerrero had 16 points, 11 rebounds and five steals.
Kutztown 101, Mansfield 93: At Keystone Arena, Reading High grad Wesley Butler scored 24 points to lead the Golden Bears (5-15, 8-18) over the Mountaineers (3-16, 4-21) in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East and snap an eight-game losing streak.
Butler, a junior, shot 10-for-15 from the field. Evan-Eric Longino had 20 points, Robert Tucker 15 points and 11 rebounds, Jalen Bryant 11 points and Michael Smith 10 points for KU.
The Golden Bears trailed 69-68 with 10:36 left, but outscored the Mountaineers 33-24 the rest of the way.
Jaz Farrell led Mansfield with 25 points. Justice Smith had 19 points and 10 rebounds.
St. Mary’s 80, Penn State Berks 54: At St. Mary’s City, Md., Wilson grad Hassan Koroma had 12 points and eight rebounds and Muhlenberg grad Grant Watson had nine points and five rebounds as the Nittany Lions (0-16, 0-22) lost their season finale in the United East.
MAC playoffs set: Alvernia and Albright will play quarterfinal games Wednesday in the MAC Commonwealth playoffs.
The third-seeded Golden Wolves will face sixth-seeded Widener at 7 p.m. at Jack McCloskey Court. The seventh-seeded Lions will play at second-seeded Hood at a time to be announced.
The semifinals are scheduled for Friday, and the championship game for next Sunday. All games will be played at the higher-seeded teams.
Women
Kutztown 57, Mansfield 45: At Keystone Arena, Rylee Derr scored 19 points to lead the Golden Bears (16-3, 23-5) over the Mountaineers (6-15, 7-18) in a PSAC East game.
KU trailed 16-10 in the second quarter before going on a 20-8 run to take a 30-24 halftime lead. Mansfield, which shot just 28% from the field, got no closer than three in the second half.
Zara Zerman scored 13 points and Naia Pulliam had 11 for the Golden Bears. Casey Remolde had 10 rebounds.
Jasmine Hilton led Mansfield with 13 points.
Alvernia 88, Hood 52: At Jack McCloskey Court, Tyra Robinson scored 26 points to lead the Golden Wolves (4-12, 11-13) past the Blazers in a MAC Commonwealth game.
Taliyah Malone had 20 points, six assists and three steals for Alvernia and Kayla Williams had 15 points.
Morgan Anderson had 14 points and nine rebounds for Hood.
Stevenson 76, Albright 60: At Owings Mills, Md., Olivia Coleman had 12 points and 13 rebounds as the Mustangs (8-7, 11-12) defeated the Lions (7-8, 12-10) in a MAC Commonwealth game.
Gabby Boggs had 17 points, five rebounds and four blocked shots for Albright and Kayana Chisholm had 11 points.
St. Mary’s 61, Penn State Berks 38: At St. Mary’s City, Md., Sam Hagenbush scored 23 points for the Nittany Lions (0-16, 0-23) in their United East season finale.
MAC playoffs set: Eighth-seeded Alvernia will open the MAC Commonwealth playoffs against ninth-seeded Hood in a play-in game Monday night at 7 at Jack McCloskey Court.
Fifth-seeded Albright will travel to fourth-seeded Stevenson for a quarterfinal Wednesday night at 6.
