J.T. Realmuto, Max Kepler go deep, Phils beat the D-backs

PHILADELPHIA — J.T. Realmuto homered, doubled and drove in three runs, Aaron Nola pitched six shutout innings for his first victory of the year and the Phillies defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-2 on Saturday night.

Max Kepler also went deep for Philadelphia, which will vie for a three-game series sweep on Sunday. The Phillies have won six of seven games.

Nola (1-5) struck out eight, walked one and allowed four hits.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. homered for the Diamondbacks.

The Phillies went ahead 3-0 in the second on Kepler’s two-run shot and Brandon Marsh’s RBI double.

Realmuto’s three-run drive to deep left in the third made it 6-0, and the Phillies went in front by seven runs when Trea Turner scored from third on a throwing error by third baseman Eugenio Suárez.

Diamondbacks starter Brandon Pfaadt (5-2) surrendered all seven runs (six earned) on nine hits in 4.2 innings.

Nola allowed a pair of singles to lead off the second before striking out Gurriel and getting Alek Thomas to ground into an inning-ending double play.

Key Stat

39 – Kyle Schwarber extended his career-high on-base streak to 39 consecutive games when he was hit on the right foot by a Pfaadt pitch leading off the third inning. It was one of three hit batters in the game, as Nola plunked Corbin Carroll and Pfaadt hit Alec Bohm, in addition to Schwarber.
