The Berks County Parks & Recreation Department continues to present programs promoting nature, history, and outdoor activity throughout the month of August 2025.
Saturday, Aug. 2 | Knee Deep in the Creek | 10 a.m. to noon @ Angora Fruit Farm
All participants should expect to wade into our rocky stream, so wear close-toed shoes that can get wet – for example, old sneakers, water shoes, etc. Geared towards families with children ages 6+.

Wednesday, Aug. 6 | Nature Scavenger Hunt with a Ranger | 10 a.m. to noon @ Heritage Center
Meet our Rangers while learning about wildlife in our parks. This family-friendly event will get folks out on the trails to investigate what they can see and hear.

Friday, Aug. 8 (rain date of Friday, Aug. 15) | Concert: Zydeco-A-Go-Go | 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. @ Gring’s Mill
Food trucks include Choy’s Caribbean Stir-Fry and Greco’s Italian Ices & Homemade Ice Cream.

Saturday, Aug. 9 | Smokey’s Birthday Celebration | 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. @ Heritage Center
Celebrate Smokey Bear’s 80th birthday with Smokey and friends! The food truck includes JR’s Brisket.

Monday, Aug. 11 | Second Monday at the Wagon Works | 11 a.m. to noon @ Heritage Center
The Berks County Heritage Center is offering guided tours of the Gruber Wagon Works from 11 a.m. to noon, one Monday a month.
Adult tickets cost $7, senior tickets cost $6, and student tickets cost $5. | Registration is required.
Wednesday, Aug. 13 | Drop-In Art Camp: Botany Blitz | 9 a.m. to noon @ Bingaman House
Campers can expect to create among the canopy of Antietam Lake Park’s beautiful trails. This is a drop-off program.

Thursday, Aug. 14 | Close-Up Photography with Ranger Jerry | 6 p.m. @ Antietam Lake Park
Learn how to shoot smaller objects in greater detail with your iPhone.

Thursday, Aug. 14 | The Return of the Bats | 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. @ Heritage Center
Join Dr. Karen Campbell of Albright College for her popular talk as she explores and explains the lives of bats, from around the world to Pennsylvania to our own Wertz’s Covered Red Bridge.

Sunday, Aug. 17 | Nature’s Best Hope Guided Hike and Invasive Pull | 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. @ Heritage Center
Join us on the Union Canal Trail at the Heritage Center for a guided hike learning about conservationist Doug Tallamy and how we can be stewards of nature, starting in our own backyards.

Tuesday, Aug. 19 | Bilingual Storytime | 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. @ Heritage Center
Join Miss Lucia for a story! Stories read in English and Spanish will share a nature theme, accompanied by activities and a craft! Geared towards children ages 3 to 7.

Friday, Aug. 22 | Concert: Pure Jerry | 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. @ Gring’s Mill

Saturday, Aug. 23 | Theorem Painting Workshop | 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. @ Beidler House
This workshop offers a basic introduction to theorem painting. Theorem painting is a folk art that uses multiple stencils to trace outlines and then layers colors to create the desired image. You’ll have the chance to create your own painting from our selection of designs. For more information, call 610-374-8839.
