Klitsch accounts for 7 TDs in Conrad Weiser’s win over Fleetwood

Logan Klitsch ran for four touchdowns and passed for three, leading Conrad Weiser to a thrilling 52-38 victory over Fleetwood in a Berks Football League Section 2 opener Friday night at Robesonia.

In a meeting that featured two of the best quarterbacks in Berks County, Klitsch and the Tigers’ Tanner Maddocks enjoyed career nights.

Klitsch, who committed to Dartmouth earlier this week, completed 15-of-19 passes for 316 yards and carried 19 times for 145 yards for the Scouts (3-1).

Maddocks and the Tigers (2-2) opened the scoring early when he connected with Gavin Morris on a 57-yard touchdown pass on third down to make the score 6-0. Conrad Weiser answered immediately on the following drive when, after picking up four first downs, Klitsch scored on a 9-yard run.

The fireworks continued on Fleetwood’s second drive of the game when Gage Moyer caught a Maddocks pass and took it all the way for a 79-yard touchdown.

After stopping Weiser on its next possession and moving down the field, Morris scored on a 1 -yard run. After a third consecutive missed extra point, Fleetwood held an 18-7 lead with 2:38 left in the first quarter.

Like they did most of the night, the Scouts responded to the hot start by Maddocks and Fleetwood in the first half. Klitsch was able to find senior wide receiver Anajay Feliciano for a 39-yard touchdown. Weiser’s 2-point conversion made it 18-15.

Maddocks threw his third touchdown pass of the night on the next drive on a 29-yard pass to senior tight end Will Ryan to make it a two-possession game once again at 24-15.

Klitsch would not let the Scouts’ deficit get any larger, however, as he took matters into his own hands on third-and-21 by running 56 yards for a touchdown. With the score 24-22, Fleetwood drove down the field only to see Maddocks miss a long field goal. Klitsch followed with a 5-yard touchdown run, which gave the Scouts a 28-24 lead at the half.

Weiser started the second half with the ball in great field position after sophomore Ousmane Conde returned the kickoff to Fleetwood’s 46-yard line. Klitsch made good use of the solid field position and threw a 34-yard touchdown to Evan Traynor. With Weiser leading 35-24, Maddocks quickly led the Tigers down the field and found Ryan for a 27-yard touchdown pass in the corner of the end zone.

Klitsch and Weiser’s offense proved to be too much for Fleetwood despite the back and fourth nature of the game. On the next drive, Klitsch led the Scouts down the field and finished the drive with a 6-yard touchdown run.

Maddocks and the Tigers kept it close. A 15-yard touchdown run by Morris with 4:12 left cut the Weiser lead to 42-38, but it turned out to be Fleetwood’s last points of the game.

Adam Moll kicked a field goal for the Scouts and Feliciano caught another touchdown pass to complete the scoring.

Maddocks threw an interception late to end Fleetwood’s last hope.
