Kutztown Day brings families and friends together for a fun-filled day Aug. 4

Kutztown Day will celebrate the Borough of Kutztown with a full-day of activities, music and food at Kutztown Park on Sunday, Aug. 4.

“Kutztown Day brings families and friends together for a fun-filled day of concerts, games and activities for the youth, adults and families, with food vendors and family picnics in celebration of the Borough of Kutztown and the surrounding areas,” the Kutztown Day Committee stated in the release.

An annual tradition, Kutztown Day has been celebrated the first Sunday in August at Kutztown Park since 1907.

Stay for the concerts and games, dinner and the fireworks. A full day is planned.”

From start to finish, from 1 p.m. through 8:30 p.m., the upper park area will be full with many food vendors selling burgers, hot dogs, French fries, cheese steaks, sausage sandwiches, pizza, ice cream, barbeque, and other foods to be added.

Music

Free concerts will be throughout the event.

Kutztown Day kicks off with opening remarks by Kutztown Mayor James Schlegel prior to the start of the first concert at 1 p.m.

The first concert features the local band The Zeptones performing on the bandshell stage from 1 to 3 p.m. Under the direction of former Kutztown Middle School band director Carl Zeplin, the band plays classic rock of the 1970s to 90s, Rhythm & Blues, and Soul.

The TimeWhys, a rock group from Lehigh Valley, will perform on the bandshell stage from 6 to 8 p.m. The five-time Morning Call Reader’s Choice Award winning band will take the crowd on a journey down memory lane with hit sounds of the 1960s, 70s and 80s. Come early for seats in the covered bandshell or bring lawn chairs for seating in the lawn area outside.

The festivities move to the lower park as the crowd gathers on the hillside for the fireworks.

Performing on the lower park stage from 7:30 to 9 p.m., Junior’s Grades — a four piece rock-n-roll cover band — will play radio tunes from the 1960s through today’s popular airplay, from The Rolling Stones, ZZ Top and Van Halen, to Pearl Jam, Kings of Leon and the Black Keys.

The Kutztown Day Raffle Drawing will take place at 9 p.m., followed by the singing of the National Anthem and the day concludes with the fireworks display.

Nova Productions will once again provide the sound system equipment during the day for announcements and updates in the upper park as well as at the stage in the lower park.

The Kutztown Day Committee — comprised of chairman Andrew Schlegel, Mayor Jim Schlegel, secretary and treasurer Michelle Sanders, Allison Fuller, Faith Schaffer, Jared Coffin, Barb Coffin and John Schmoyer — would like to thank and recognize the sponsors, vendors, supporters and participants.
