The Kutztown Rotary Charitable Foundation and Rotary Club of Kutztown celebrated more than $20,000 they donated to area nonprofit organizations at a dinner on Nov. 15.
Representatives from the nonprofit organizations were invited to the dinner at the Kutztown Tavern, where the club holds its weekly meetings.
Recipients for 2023 represented at the dinner included Allentown Rescue Mission, Brandywine Heights Education Foundation, Burn Prevention Network, Friend Inc. Community Services, Hope Rescue Mission, iHART Harvest, Kutztown Area School District Odyssey of the Mind, Kutztown Community Partnership, Kutztown Community Library, Kutztown Strong, Reading Music Association, Topton Area Senior Citizens, and Topton Fire Company No. 1.
Not able to attend were recipients Brandywine Heights Parent Teacher Council, Kutztown Fire and Rescue, Kutztown Area Historical Society and Topton Mini Museum.
The June Taste of Kutztown event is the Rotary Club’s major fundraiser. This past year celebrated the event’s 14th year, and it has become the iconic early summer wine, spirits, brew, craft and food festival. attracting more than 2,000 visitors who experience offerings from over 100 vendors.
A smaller fall fundraising event for the club is the Ghost Tour, which was started in 2022.
The evening included a program by Rotary Club President Kurt Rohrbach and Foundation President Tom Kulp explaining their service and fundraising activities. Invited participants then addressed club members on behalf of their organizations to tell a little about the work they do and how they intend to use the donation they received.
In addition to these donations, the Kutztown Rotary Club participates in international and local charitable and volunteer contributions annually.
Club members participate in Student of the Month for Brandywine and Kutztown high schools, community activities through Kutztown Community partnership, cleanup events, food banks through Friend and Opportunity House and The Potato Project. The club sponsors student programs for academic scholarships and leadership training as well as Farmers’ Night to show appreciation to local farmers.
