Kutztown Strong hosts Kutztown Kruizz July 27

Cars and car enthusiasts will once again fill Main Street for Kutztown Strong‘s annual Kutztown Kruizz on July 27.

The day begins at 9 a.m. with registration and staging at Kutztown Area High School, followed by a 10 a.m. parade of the cars down Main Street where they will remain on display for the day.

“The Kruizz offers the unique experience of having a parade of classic vehicles drive down Main Street to the delight of spectators,” Merry Schlegel, Kutztown Kruizz co-chair and Kutztown Strong past president, said in a statement.

The car show annually attracts more than 250 cars and several hundred spectators.

“In having conversations with car owners, they love being able to park their cars on Main Street for viewing,” said Schlegel. “The backdrop of the stores and buildings just adds to the feel of being in a special time and place.  It’s unique.  We’ve also streamlined the registration and provide hospitality in the staging area.”

All proceeds from the Kruizz help the grassroots coalition to continue programs and activities that support the behavioral health and wellbeing of local children, youth and families.

“It’s the major fundraiser for Kutztown Strong that brings our community together and helps broadcast our values:  kindness, integrity, caring and community,” she said.

In addition to viewing vehicles of all makes, models and years, visitors will be treated to many other activities, and, of course, lots of food and shopping.

“There is music, food, lots of activities for children, and then the cars,” said Schlegel. “There is nothing quite like the parade of cars down Main Street or being able to take a close up look at spectacular vehicles.  It’s amazing!”

Children will have an art space hosted by the Local Folk Creative Studio. Cub Scout Pack 101 will have an interactive activity and the Kutztown PTO will have some games.  Get a close up look at a Kutztown Police Department vehicle in celebration of the department’s 100th anniversary as well as check out the display of equipment brought by the Old Time Plow Boys.

There will be live music performances during the afternoon. The Dave Mell Blues Band will provide blues, classic rock and R & B standards on the Main Street Stage. DJ Jeff George of Jumpin’ J Entertainment will have everyone rocking out or singing along with karaoke in the 100 block of Main Street.

“I hope the community enjoys a beautiful day outside that is free of charge,” said Schlegel. “They’ll have the opportunity to enjoy music provided by the Dave Mell Band and DJ Jumpin’ J Entertainment, reconnect with friends and appreciate the classic, vintage and unique cars on display while at the same time supporting Kutztown Strong, the merchants, and the non-profits who set up food stands or displays on Main Street.”

At 1 p.m. there will be a car awards ceremony at the Main Street Stage. The Main Street event draws to a close at 2 p.m.; however, the Kruizz continues into the evening with a 6 p.m. concert in Kutztown Park featuring the Fabulous Grease Band.

Part of the Borough of Kutztown 2024 Concert Series in the Park, the free concert will be held rain or shine in the Kutztown Park bandshell. The concert fills up quickly, so come early for seats inside the bandshell or bring chairs and blankets for seats outside on the lawn area. The park concession stand Saucony Café will be open for food and drinks before and during the show.
