Letter: America’s schools headed in troubling direction

Editor:

With my 50th high school reunion on the horizon, I am pondering all the dreadful results and changes in public schools since 1973. I can say that I received a decent education.

Now we exist in a post-truth culture. Government-run schools are largely infected by the tentacles of Marxism. The age of respect, reason tolerance expired long ago.

Is it not tragic and toxic to indoctrinate precious and impressionable minds with abject poison? Can people really “identify” as whatever they want? This is a surefire recipe for catastrophe.

Failure is the new satisfactory grade. Such performances present a sad and bleak future for America. This agenda has been at work for many seasons, and the harvest is nearly complete.
Nevertheless, I am encouraged to read and hear of increased participation in home-schooling and private/religious schools. Some parents are making the critical switch to such institutions. Many politicians are doing the same.

The solution to this seemingly complex and tragic travesty is quite simple. This nation’s first textbook was the Bible. The lessons therein are still valuable, productive and life-giving if applied. How else did America once become so great?

Unfortunately I see Jeremiah 6:16 unfolding: “Thus says the Lord, stand you in the ways and see and ask for the old paths, where is the good way and walk therein and you shall find rest for your soul. But they said, ‘We will not walk therein.’”
