Letter: Biden deserves blame for high gasoline prices

Editor:

“Going up” (Reading Eagle, Oct. 18) blames everyone except the real cause of rising gas prices, The U.S. was fuel independent and an energy exporter before President Joe Biden shut down the Keystone XL pipeline, canceled drilling on federal lands and imposed stricter emissions on U.S. oil companies and called for half the cars sold in the U.S. by 2030 to be electric. Power plants have a bigger carbon footprint producing electricity than electric cars save.

Then he begs OPEC to produce more oil. Economics 101 says that if you have anything that someone else wants, you raise the price of said item, not produce more and undercut yourself.

Furthermore, Biden’s unconstitutional COVID-19 mandates are causing the labor shortages, forcing people to get shots they don’t believe in or be fired. More than 4 million workers quit their jobs in August. I for one am making more money staying at home than going back to work thanks to liberals’ free money policies.

People may try to blame OPEC, the Russians and their allies for not producing more oil, but once again, demand causes price increases. Only a fool would produce more and get less for any product.
