It was with pleasure that I read Kathryn Lopez’s Aug. 26 column, “Let’s learn to practice the art of being grateful.” So often these columns start with a universal premise and then slyly drift into a dig at one party or candidate, asserting that the columnist’s favorite is the only upholder of that value. If Lopez did that, I missed it. Furthermore, though she is clearly a deeply religious person, the applicability of gratitude to enhancing our life on Earth is applicable regardless of religious belief.
Several years ago, I started the practice, especially on grumpy days, of thinking of three things for which I am grateful. They range from large things like family and health to smaller ones like a beautiful day or the reliability of several cups of coffee with one push of the button. It is hardly an original idea, but I have shared it with family, friends and patients with some amazing feedback.
I am grateful for Kathryn Lopez and the Reading Eagle for sharing that column.
