I am writing in response to Byron York’s Dec. 29 commentary (“Democratic lawfare on Trump”), York has carried the water for Trump for years, and this effort is no different. It is astonishing to me that conservative media would like nothing better than to sweep all of former President Donald Trump’s alleged criminal activities under the carpet like they never happened.
It is not necessarily that the Democrats are waging lawfare on Trump. Shouldn’t it be that anyone, regardless of party affiliation, be held accountable for attempting to steal a free and fair election; staging an insurrection to stay in power; and hoarding classified documents (government property), resulting in four indictments and over 90 federal charges? And now he says he will become a dictator on day one if reelected.
We keep hearing that no one is above the law. But it appears the Republican Party would like to make Trump the exception.
York and right-wing media types are all too eager to give Trump a free pass for all of his criminal behavior. Trump is very good at portraying himself to be the victim, and unfortunately the MAGA base believes him and hangs on his every word.
Trump is a danger to this country. He makes it no secret that he’d like to be an authoritarian leader and dismantle the Constitution when elected. He most definitely should be held accountable for his actions and not be able to set foot in the White House again.
