Editor:
We Americans recently were granted a preview concerning our endangered and nearly obsolete virtues of liberty and truth.
I am referring to the Canadian truckers’ rally and protest. These people were expressing their dissent with their government’s oppressive COVID-19 mandates and other policies.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau labeled them “insurrectionists” for engaging in peaceful assembly and protest. He invoked Canada’s national emergencies act to freeze their bank accounts and revoke driver’s license and insurance. Did such a scene represent an emergency?
When one’s freedom to question or criticize leaders’ decisions is disregarded and silenced, then we are all on the path back to the dark ages. These are simply egregious violations of civil rights.
Englishman Lord Acton’s famous words depict the scene perfectly. He declared, “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.”
Yes, I am sorry to be sharing such distressing developments. A proverb of the Bible states that when the righteous are in authority the people rejoice, but when the wicked bear rule the people mourn.
Yes, a prophesied world government is impending quickly, ready or not. It too shall be ephemeral like the previous reigns of men.
And then shall appear the sign of the son of man in heaven, and then all the tribes of the Earth mourn, and they shall see the son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. Jesus shall return.
