Letter: Just who is afraid of mail-in ballots?

Editor:

Who’s afraid of the big, bad, mail-in ballot? Mail-in ballots favor Democrats, period. They have been allowed in our history, but never used by so many people. In 2020, we had more votes for Donald Trump and Joe Biden than ever before. Why?

Interest in the election, of course, but whenever the populace votes, meaning the majority of people, Democrats are favored to win.

Mail-in ballots create a new dynamic of expanding the vote to people’s homes, whereas prior to 2020, only voters who traveled to the polls counted (plus some absentee ballots and overseas provisional ballots). Check the stats: Trump won the Election Day vote in a large number of states; whereas Biden won the mail-in vote nationwide, according to www.fivethirtyeight.com.

Centuries ago Poland’s system of government fell apart because it allowed one veto per senator. Only measures that had 100% of the votes passed, meaning the nation could not get much done, even though the idea sounds noble. That government simply did not last.

Rejecting arguments of favoritism, it does seem noble to allow one vote, one citizen, but traveling to the polls probably helped Republicans not to work so hard. Mail-in ballots may mean several Democratic wins — until it’s obvious that the Republican candidate is the better choice.

Balanced government has power, and it should practice balance. Let’s always vote to keep the balance; yours truly, the silent majority.
