“Opportunity to heal” (Reading Eagle, Sept. 22) was a great article. Many infantry veterans think of their fallen comrades in arms every day and look for ways to stay in touch. Including their names, location of the firefight and specifics about their heroic deeds personalized the meaning of the memorial.
As veteran Eddie Gehringer noted in the article, The Wall that Heals stands in stark contrast to the way returning veterans were initially treated and signifies an appreciation
of their ultimate sacrifice.
