Editor:
Reflecting on your Jan. 1 editorial (“It’s up to all of us to make most of 2024”) and its statement about “the tendency to talk past people,” I also think of how we tend to talk past our God above.
In Psalms 19 it reminds us that God is not silent in 2024 as he uses his Creation in the amazing heavens above us daily displaying globally his power and glory, of which science bears witness. Then too he provides us with his Law, the Word, to enlighten and restore our souls, promising those who keep His ways great reward.
This moral compass spares the willing a rescue from internal destructive powers of evil, monitoring both heart and mouth. Romans 1 speaks of the wrath of God toward those who suppress the truth provided.
God’s incredible offer to start this year off on the right foot is this, to allow him to become our rock (stability) and redeemer (forgiver, escape from ugly evil, sin). Due to loss, wars and strife it may seem as if God is silent, but no, he has communicated to us, not past us. We can be hopeful this year by His grace and offer, if accepted. This hope is our anchor.
