Editor:
It could be argued that there has always been a muted undercurrent of sociopathy corrupting American politics and those who seek to spit-shine their egos and fatten their wallets by sidling up to the public trough under the guise of public service.
But in the past decade the Republican Party has, apparently, chosen to embrace disruptive and noxious behavior. The execrable result is a Congress that is no more capable of responsible and responsive governance than a box of feral cats (my apologies to felines).
This aberration being visible to all the world, one might expect that in the crucial upcoming elections, American voters would wish to put an end to this embarrassing nonsense. But if the polls are correct, Republican voters by an astonishingly large margin are about to present a venal autocrat with the public demeanor of a malevolent circus clown with a chance at a second bite of the apple of democracy.
We can no longer speak of a lunatic fringe amongst the American electorate, as it has migrated to the mainstream.
Please, let’s not drag out the platitude about choosing between the lesser of two evils. That is no more than transparent sophistry.
There is not a shred of equivalency between former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden. If you don’t believe me, put Trump and his sycophants back in the Oval Office again and see what kind of country your children and grandchildren have to look forward to. Because this time he won’t leave.
