Letter: Take note of warning signs before voting for Trump

Editor:

As reported in The Nation, “According to Americans for Tax Fairness the wealth held by the richest 748 Americans exceeds $5 trillion — up by a staggering $2.2 trillion since Donald Trump’s tax cuts for corporations and the rich were passed in 2017.”

Those numbers should give pause to anyone who thinks Trump is on the side of hardworking taxpayers. The numbers reveal whose side he is on. Looking back over the four years of his presidency, cutting taxes for the wealthy was his crowning achievement. He did little to improve our infrastructure. He didn’t get Mexico to pay for his border wall; taxpayers are stuck with that bill. He didn’t lower drug costs — and we can’t forget his inept handling of the COVID-19 crisis, leading to thousands of needless deaths.

Instead, during his four years in office $7.8 trillion was added to our national debt, placing an unconscionable burden on ordinary Americans. His business failures and bankruptcy filings before becoming president should have been a flashing red light in 2016.

Trump’s incendiary and outrageous rhetoric along with his praise for autocratic leaders should be another flashing red light as we approach November.

The office of the presidency is not reality TV.
