Letter: What happened to American priorities?

Where are American priorities?

I am a well-educated, straight 72-year-old Christian female of German ethnicity. I do not understand prejudice. I really don’t understand prejudicial actions that cause self-harm.

Most of us have favorite restaurants, likely because we like the food. Do we grill the waitress/waiter concerning who purchases and cooks the food? If we found out that the chef was dark-skinned, would we stop going there?

If our investments are doing well, do we question whether the person directing those investments is gay or straight?

When our physician prescribes medications to address our medical issues, do we investigate who developed it? Would we stop taking it because it was a person lumped in the diversity, equity and inclusion community?

If a loved one needed lifesaving surgery, would we want the very best surgeon, or just one who is white and straight? Do we question who built our cars, grew our food, constructed a house we are interested in buying or designed clothing that appeals to us? I doubt it.

The multitude of blessings available to us come from a very broad community. That means they are the product of talents from people of diverse religions, races, ethnicities and many preferences.

Jesus said, “Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Yes, he said “all.” We lose so much that is good and beneficial to all of us in this world when we set restrictions on who can live, work and prosper among us.
