Letter: Will enough ever be enough when it comes to Ukraine aid?

Editor:

How much is enough? Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy just visited Washington to ask for more financial aid. President Joe Biden is seeking to send another $24 billion in aid to Ukraine as it continues to fight the Russians. We should stop and let that sink in for a moment: That’s 24 billion U.S. dollars.

According to the Kiehl Institute for World Economy, $75 billion in aid has already been sent from the U.S to Ukraine. Everyone must remember where that money comes from: The pockets of American taxpayers.

U.S. taxpayers should not be having their hard-earned money sent to a foreign nation, let alone one that has been accused of being deeply corrupt, when those resources can be put to better use here.

Here are some areas where $24 billion could be better spent: fighting crime, securing our nation’s borders, veterans affairs, school teacher salaries, cleaning up our waterways and water sources, rebuilding areas that have been affected by natural or unnatural disasters, helping the homeless, curing diseases, and so on… .

It is time for elected officials in Washington to start being more fiscally responsible with the money that has been taken from the U.S. taxpayer.

We the people need to start speaking up and demanding that those we have sent to Washington stop the wasteful spending of our money and put it where it best serves the citizens of this country.
