Library Readers Reach County-Wide Goal to Sponsor Pet Adoption

from Reading District Libraries

Egypt, a one-year-old pitbull, is the lucky recipient of the Pages for Pets adoption sponsorship, Reading District Libraries and the Animal Rescue League of Berks County announced on Monday, July 29.

Pages for Pets is a library initiative hosted by Reading District Libraries as part of their annual summer learning program. Readers from across Berks were challenged to read towards a county-wide goal of 500,000 minutes, with each minute counting toward the financial sponsorship of a pet’s adoption at the Animal Rescue League. Readers surpassed this goal by reading a combined 604,889 minutes.

“This is the second time we’ve hosted Pages for Pets, and it has proved to be such an impactful program for our participants. They love contributing towards a community goal and good cause,” Marissa Guidara, youth services district consultant for Reading District Libraries, said. “We are so happy that we’ve helped Egypt get one step closer to finding her forever home.”

Egypt is available for adoption, with all adoption fees sponsored. She is described as a very sweet, high-energy girl who needs a home where she can run to her heart’s content and let out all her zoomies.

Potential adopters can also participate in the Animal Rescue League’s Dog’s Day Out program, in which they can treat a dog to a day of fun out of the shelter. This gives the dogs a deserved break from the routine of the shelter, helps relieve their stress, and can even lead to adoption. Over 35 dogs have been out on adventures so far. More information can be found on their website: www.berksarl.org.

In addition to “Pages for Pets,” each of the 25 library locations in the Reading Library District hosted a variety of summer learning programs and free activities. For more information on library programming and services, please visit www.berkslibraries.org.
