Man, 19, charged with homicide in deaths of Schuylkill County teens

The man connected to the slayings of two Schuylkill County teenagers in the days following their deaths last October has been charged with homicide.

Lamour C. Branch, 19, of Port Carbon, was charged Wednesday morning in the deaths of Hunter Mock, 18, and Angelito Xavier Caraballo, 16, whose bodies were found in a wooded area near New Philadelphia on Oct. 10.

Branch was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge David Plachko.

He faces two counts of murder of the first degree, two counts of murder of the third degree and a number of other counts.

Branch appeared Wednesday morning in Schuylkill County Court where he was found guilty of criminal mischief and had two charges dismissed in connection with a Cressona burglary case from Sept. 4. He was charged in that case on Oct. 10 — the day the bodies were discovered.

Branch was going to be released on bail, but when he went into the hallway, he was met with the homicide charges.

From inside the courtroom, clapping could be heard in the hallway from family members of the victims.

Branch has been in jail since December when his bail was revoked by President Judge Jacqueline Russell, who found that he violated conditions of a Sept. 4 bail release by failing to meet with his probation officer on Nov. 27 and Dec. 4 and failing to show for a Dec. 5 hearing in the burglary case.

Questioned by police after the teens’ deaths, Branch initially denied being at the scene. Later, search warrants at the time show, he told police he, the teens and another man went to New Philadelphia and took turns firing a gun. He claimed the other man shot Mock.

“Get Angel,” Branch told police the man said after dropping the gun. Branch tried to shoot Caraballo and pulled the trigger but it didn’t fire, the documents said. The three got into a scuffle and Branch couldn’t find Caraballo or the man, Branch told police, and he fled.

A female friend of the victims had called state police at Frackville at 3:25 a.m. Oct. 10 to report she had found Mock and Caraballo at “The Sanchez,” an old mining area filled with water. Police later discovered their bodies at the bottom of the embankment, according to the warrants.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
