March events led by Schuylkill County Conservancy

Schuylkill County Conservancy presents the following program this March:

• Night Owl Prowl at Frog Hollow:  Saturday, March 16, 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., Stone Mountain Road, Wayne Township. There will be a short hike and look and listen for four native owl species. Great horned owls are into their breeding season. Some information will be covered on our local owls including recordings of their vocalizations. Walk is in the dark and flashlights are recommended. Dress for outdoor weather. Some paths have uneven surfaces. Public is welcome to this free program. Not a pet-friendly event. The program will be presented by seasoned birder Dave Kruel

• Signs of Spring at Frog Hollow, Sunday, March 17, 1 to 2 p.m., meet in the parking lot. Join Master Naturalists Sue Reier and Barb Ritzheimer for a leisurely ramble in search of signs of spring. Participants will look for leaves and buds that might be popping out. Some of the early spring ephemerals may be poking out of the ground. Walkers will try to identify bird songs since birds will be getting ready for breeding season and may already be singing to claim territory and find a mate. This walk is free and open to people of all ages. No pets, please. Dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes as the trails are not manicured. Trails are not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs. Bring binoculars. In case of inclement weather, the walk will be canceled.
