From City of Reading
Mayor Eddie Morán announced on Friday, June 6, that the demolition phase of the East Reading Pool project is now complete. This update marks a major step forward in the City’s plans to transform the site into a new community splash pad and public-use parking lot.
The demolition, completed at a cost of $185,560, removes the deteriorated structure and prepares the site for design and engineering work, which will begin later this year. Construction is expected to start in 2026 or 2027, following the completion of design and grant application phases in 2025 and early 2026.
As part of this update, temporary “No Parking” signs that were posted in the area during demolition will now be cancelled and removed to restore access until construction begins.
Mayor Morán visited the site last week just before the final stages of demolition. He was joined by Capital Projects Manager David Anspach III, Chief of Staff English Bradley, and Finance Director Jamar Kelly.
“This is an important milestone — not just for East Reading, but for the entire city,” said Mayor Morán. “This site now has a future again. We’re creating a safe, welcoming space that meets the needs of today’s families and reflects our vision for a stronger Reading.”
The project supports all four pillars of Mayor Morán’s administration:
- Safe streets and safe neighborhoods, by providing a recreational outlet for families.
- Community and economic development, through targeted public investment.
- Education and workforce development, by creating quality-of-life amenities that support youth.
- Responsible leadership, through thoughtful, long-term planning.
“This isn’t just about replacing an old facility,” said Mayor Morán. “It’s about building something that works for the community today — and will still work for them tomorrow.”
