MANUFACTURERS RESOURCE CENTER
The Manufacturers Resource Center has announced the appointment of Harry Ciavarella of Pottsville to its board of directors. Bringing extensive experience in commercial lending, Ciavarella is regional manager senior vice president, commercial lending, of Tompkins Community Bank, overseeing operations in Schuylkill and Carbon counties. He will join the finance committee, where his financial acumen will enhance MRC’s strategic planning.

Ciavarella is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in business administration. He is also a graduate of both Schuylkill Executive Leadership and Leadership Berks. Ciavarella is active with many community organizations. He is an advisory council member of the Family Business Alliance of the Greater Reading Chamber Alliance, School Board Director for the Pottsville Area School District, and a member of the Lehigh Valley Hospital–Schuylkill Board of Directors. Ciavarella was also a past judge for the Launch Pottsville Program through Pottsville Area Development Corporation and for the Penn State Young Entrepreneur Academy Program
Rich Hobbs, President and CEO of MRC said Ciavarella will bring a “sharp financial perspective and innovative strategies” to the board.
Barclay Friends
Barclay Friends, a Kendal Affiliate, has announced the appointment of Patricia “Patti” Knowles has been named director of resident engagement at Barclay Friends, a Kendal Affiliate. In this role, Knowles will oversee the development and implementation of person-centered programs designed to enhance the quality of life for all residents.

In her new role at Barclay Friends, Patti will focus on creating engaging activities and programs tailored to diverse resident interests and abilities. She will supervise engagement staff, manage departmental resources, and collaborate with other departments to ensure a cohesive and positive experience for residents and their families.
Knowles brings extensive experience in senior services and dementia care to her new position. She holds a Master of Science in gerontology from Saint Joseph’s University and maintains certifications as a Certified Dementia Care Practitioner and Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Care Trainer through the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners.
Her career spans more than two decades in aging services, including her most recent role as community life and volunteer services manager at The Hickman Personal Care Boarding Home. There, she successfully managed comprehensive activities programs for both secured dementia units and broader residential communities while supervising staff and volunteers.
Prior to her work at The Hickman, Knowles served in leadership roles at Chester County Department of Aging Services, where she provided direct supervision for aging care managers and ensured compliance with federal, state and local regulations. Her experience also includes facilitating support groups and representing the department at community speaking engagements.
BARLEY SNYDER
Barley Snyder attorneys Kevin C. Myhre and John “J.” Quain have been named to the Central Penn Business Journal’s 2025 Forty Under 40 list.
The CPBJ Forty Under 40 awards recognize the future leaders of Central Pennsylvania, under the age of 40, who are achieving success in their careers and giving back in meaningful ways to the community.

Kevin C. Myhre is a patent attorney and partner in Barley Snyder’s Intellectual Property Practice Group, where he advises clients on patent application preparation and prosecution, trademark matters, and litigation. His prior experience as a U.S. Patent and Trademark Office patent examiner gives him unique insight into the complexities of intellectual property law.
Myhre also plays a leadership role in advancing internal innovation at the firm as the Practice Excellence chair, guiding the implementation of Lean process improvements. His civic engagement includes serving as vice chairman of the American Intellectual Property Law Association’s Patent Law Committee, chairman of the Chester County Bar Association’s IP Law Section, and as a board member for the West Chester Area Education Foundation.
John “J.” Quain is an attorney in Barley Snyder’s Litigation and Finance & Creditors’ Rights practice groups. His practice spans a wide range of litigation and appellate matters, as well as bankruptcy and regulatory compliance issues.

Quain is involved in community service, currently serving as a board member of the Dauphin County Bar Association and chairman of its Young Lawyers Section. He is also a board member of the Spanish American Civic Association and board secretary and legal counsel for the Historic Harrisburg Association. In recognition of his pro bono service, Quain received the “Light of Liberty Pro Bono Attorney” award from the Pennsylvania Immigration Resource Center in 2022, honoring his commitment to advancing justice for vulnerable populations.
The 2025 Forty Under 40 honorees will be recognized at an awards celebration on Monday, Oct. 27.
