There will be no major changes in the governmental structure of Schuylkill Haven borough. That was the word following the Jan. 2 reorganization and council meeting.
Jerry Bowman and Tom Gordon continue as president and vice president, and all other regular council positions remain the same.
Councilman Donald “Doc” Dress won a two-year and a four-year seat in the election. He accepted the four-year seat, leaving the two-year seat vacant. John Williams sent a letter stating his interest in being appointed to the two-year seat, to which he was appointed at the meeting.
Kaitlyn Tinari was reappointed as secretary, Ashley Bieski as treasurer, Jessica Seiders as administrator, Michael Paulin as zoning and code officer, Mark Semanchik as solicitor, Entech Engineering as water and sewer engineers, Utility Engineers as the electrical engineer, and First Citizens Community Bank as the borough’s depository.
Officials announced that a public auction of a property located at 203-205 Center Avenue was successful with the winning bid being $20,000. No word was provided on the buyer or plans for the property.
Seiders says there are still banners available for the Hometown Heroes if residents want to purchase one to honor their loved ones. Anyone interested in the program that honors Schuylkill Haven veterans should send an email to shhometownheroes@gmail.com for guidelines and instructions.
The Recreation Department announced that it will once again stock trout at the Island Park and Bubeck Park.
“We are extremely happy to have the opportunity once again to join with Schuylkill Headwaters to continue work on elevating the trout population here in the confines of Schuylkill Haven borough,” the borough announced. Stockings will occur in April.
Scout Troop 662 will conduct its annual Christmas tree collection on Saturday, Jan. 13, starting at 9 a.m. If there is inclement weather that day, the event will be moved to Jan. 20 or Jan. 21.
