No replacement yet for Schuylkill Haven council president

No action has been made on a replacement for the recently resigned president of Schuylkill Haven Borough Council.

In May council President Jerry Bowman submitted his resignation because he moved to Pottsville. Bowman was presented with an award by Mayor Michael Devlin. No action was taken on a replacement at that time.

Council Vice President Tom Gordon ran the June 4 meeting, but a new president has yet to be selected.

In other business June 4, junior council person Teegan Fisher was sworn in. The junior council program allows an area high school student, on a one-year term, to sit in on council meetings to get experience in local politics. The individual doesn’t hold a vote.

Council approved hiring James Haas as part-time property maintenance technician pending completion of a background check.

Liberty Fire Company received permission to hold a truck housing parade on July 26. The approval includes the closure of some area roadways and parking restrictions for the event.

Council approved fire police coverage for the Greater Schuylkill Haven Area Business Association’s Walk, Wine, Wander event on June 18.

During public comment, Bill McGovern of Parkway expressed frustration at having an invoice for damage to two water meters that froze over the winter.
