The National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning for Berks County and all of southeastern Pennsylvania with the vigorous cold front on the doorstep.
The warning is in effect from midnight to 9 a.m. Wednesday.
The warning reads that temperatures as low as 29 can be expected in some locations, and further, “freeze conditions will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation. This will likely bring an end to the growing season.”
Typically there is a period of frost watches and warnings before a freeze, but this fall the region is going straight to the freeze.
Expect cloudy conditions today, with the chance of showers and the temperature struggling to get out of the 40s, according to AccuWeather.
As the skies clear tonight, a northwest wind is expected and the temperature should drop to near the freezing mark by Wednesday morning.
Wednesday through Saturday should be mostly sunny with highs near 50 degrees and morning lows near freezing, according to the latest forecast.
That’s a few degrees subnormal.
Typically, once the weather service makes note of the end of the growing season, no further freeze warnings are issued for subsequent cold weather in the season.
