Ockimey, Ortiz power Reading Fightin Phils to 10-9 win over New Hampshire Fisher Cats

Josh Ockimey went 4-for-5 with a double, home run and three RBIs and Jhailyn Ortiz went 3-for-5 with a homer and two RBIs to lead the Reading Fightin Phils to a 10-9 win over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats Sunday in an Eastern League game at Manchester, N.H.

The Fightin Phils (8-13) took the six-game series 4-2, their first series victory of the season. The Fisher Cats fell to 10-11.

Reading, which had a season-high 14 hits, scored six in the second to go up 6-2. Sal Gozzo had an RBI single and Vito Friscia a sacrifice fly before Ockimey hit a two-run double. Ortiz followed with a two-run homer, his fourth home run of the season.

Ockimey and Friscia each hit solo homers in the sixth to give the Fightins a 10-5 lead.

Brian Marconi struggled in the ninth inning for the Reading, but struck out Ryan Gold with the bases loaded to end the game.

Mike Adams (1-0) earned the victory for the Fightins, allowing one hit and walking one in two innings of relief. He struck out three.

Reading starter Jack Perkins lasted just one inning, allowed two runs on two hits and a walk. He struck out one.
