Oley Valley defeats Littlestown to advance in District 3 Class 2A boys soccer playoffs

Oley Valley began its quest to repeat as district champions on Tuesday night, and moved one step closer to a second straight title.

The No. 7 seed Lynx topped 10th-seeded Littlestown 5-2 at Oley in the first round of the District 3 Class 2A boys soccer playoffs. Oley Valley never trailed.

The Lynx dominated possession for long stretches in both halves, and continuously pressured the Thunderbolts. Oley Valley outshot Littlestown 10-4.

The Lynx jumped to a 2-0 lead midway through the first half thanks to goals from Anthony Witt and Danny Turchi. Oley utilized a mix of short and long passes to build its offensive attacks.

Making its first appearance in the district playoffs, Littlestown responded just before halftime with a goal from Josh Blose. The Thunderbolts were in control late in the first half, but were unable to generate prime scoring opportunities.

“We were a little rusty,” Lynx coach Shawn Meals said of the first half. “I don’t think we were as crisp, as clean as we could have been. We just let them dictate.”

Oley Valley bounced back in the opening minutes of the second half, as Chase Reifsnyder found the back of the net to give the Lynx the 3-1 lead. However, the Thunderbolts did not go away, as Blose scored his second goal of the game 11 minutes later to cut into the deficit once again.

Oley Valley sealed it with a pair of goals in a three-minute span late in the second half. Brooks Muir scored with just over 14 minutes remaining before Reifsnyder scored his second goal of the match just moments later.

The Lynx advance to the quarterfinal round against No. 2 seed Biglerville Saturday at 6 p.m. at Biglerville.
